In 1972 Dell and Lucile Powell took the reigns of Powell the Florist and gave the company some of it's biggest updates. In 1981 the old glass greenhouses were torn down and replaced with brand new fiberglass enclosures. Ascetics were not the only things in those days. The couple also decided to open a large gift shop within the store that could be used for walk in customers as well as gift baskets. Not only did this work, but it worked so well that it is still a large part of the business today. After 17 extremely successful years, Dell and Lucile decided to pass the company down to their son Greg and so the tradition of the true family business continued.In
When Greg and Cindy (Greg's Wife) took over in 1989 it didn't take long for the community to take notice. Very quickly the couple became known as the king and queen of floral in the Michiana area. Anyone and everyone began to utilize Powell as there one stop floral shop. It has been 28 years and nothing has changed when it comes to the amazingly high quality that The 4th generation Powell owners produce. Still in the year 2017 Michiana sees Powell as the only answer to there needs for anything floral or gift. The biggest change has been an influx of die cast scale cars within the gift shop. That is no accident, Greg can tell you just about anything about any classic vehicle. Setting and talking with him about classics is one of the most interesting conversations you can have. Greg has found a way to mesh his two passions together and make an extremely successful business out of it.
